SNAME 2006
Expo registration hours are: October 11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (for exhibitors only); October 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and October 13, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Also on the schedule are various social events which organizers urge Conference-goers to attend. Among them includes the President's Reception on October 11; the Keynote Address and Award Session on October 12, morning; and the Annual Banquet on October 12, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The Annual Banquet will feature an award ceremony for accomplished members of the industry. Some of this year's award recipients include: Edward N. Comstock, receiving the David W. Taylor Medal for notable achievement in naval architecture and/or marine engineering; Peter G. Noble, receiving the 2006 Vice Admiral "Jerry" Land Medal for outstanding accomplishment in the marine field; and Preben T. Pedersen, the 2006 recipient of the Davidson Medal for outstanding scientific accomplishment in ship research. Since over 1,000 students are expected to participate in SNAME, organizers have scheduled key events for networking opportunities. Students are encouraged to meet one another at the Student Social on October 11, which kicks off the student portion of the Conference. On October 12, SNAME will hold its Student Design Competition. Also, resumes are bound to come in handy for the Student Job Fair, also on that day. In the final day of the Conference, students can take part in the Poster Session, scheduled for the morning of October 13, and attend Student Paper Presentations to take place later in the afternoon. And last is the Student Summit, for Saturday, October 14, where students and SNAME leaders discuss ideas and suggestions regarding future conferences. And for anyone else with a little bit of free time, the city of Fort Lauderdale will surely be a good place to spend it. Fort Lauderdale offers 23 miles of coastline and beaches which are conveniently just minutes away from the Convention Center. In addition, golf courses, parks, shops and restaurants are within easy access to and from the Center. Visit http://www.sname.org/AM2006/index.shtml for more information regarding the conference, exhibitions and visitor's details.
